This is a very special painting, created for Emily’s first nephew, Billy (William), who was born July 2024, and his parents.
Emily knew that she wanted the painting to be of Billy and a “beast-like” creature, i.e. a bear, fox, wolf, tiger, etc. When she saw that the 2024 Lunar New Year was the year of the Dragon — specifically a wood dragon, which she chose to represent through the antlers and it’s green coloring — she knew exactly what the painting would be.
Emily hoped to create a fantastical setting that could be for children, as well as adults. This painting is a reminder to immerse yourself in a bit of childlike wonder every once in awhile.
